Mary Alice Reporting –
Four Claymont City School District students are part of a business class, and they created a wellness kit.
The original intention was for those 50 and older, but the information can be used by all to practice healthy eating, movement, mental and financial health.
Senior and CEO Ellie Baker explains it’s designed to help generations to not only survive but to thrive through five areas of wellness including, physical, nutritional, social-emotional, mental, and financial.
“You have to stay moving and active to maintain your independence, you have to pay attention to what you put into your body, loneliness is one of the major factors people face, and then mental because you have to keep your mind sharp, and then financial because of retirement and what to do what the assets they’ve gained throughout their life.”
Sophomore COO Cambria Edwards notes that the creation of Age Well is through Junior Achievements and the on sale kits contain multiple items.
“In our kit, we had to come up with an original curriculum booklet, challenge cards, and we also have added stuff like a resistance band, cards, and a timer. For some of the stuff in our curriculum booklet, it does need a timer.”
The Chief Marketing Officer is sophomore Zane Kuczirka, who says they made sure to conduct thorough research as each category was written by a member of the team, with teacher Andrew Zimmerman in charge of the financial section.
“We went to professionals such as nurses, physical therapists, and we also did independent research on our own time.”
Senior and Chief Financial Officer Payton Halsey says the kit has well-rounded benefits but has also boosted his self-confidence.
“I think it’s been pretty fun doing this. It’s gotten me out of my comfort zone having to go sell to people, present it, and talk to people. I think it’s a good opportunity helping teenagers learn more about business and helping them know how to run a business.”
The 145-page booklet is available for purchase online at www.agewellja.com.
The Claymont group is among 16 other student companies that will showcase their product, on April 18th, in a two-part competition of a trade show and live presentation followed by a Q&A from business experts.
