Coming up Thursday and Friday, the Claymont High School Mock Trial team will be in Columbus.
This is the second consecutive years for the team to advance to the state finals. They are also the sole representative from Tuscarawas County, advancing from a field of 254 teams to 31.
The eight students will act as attorneys and witnesses in a hearing centered around a politicians’ defamation lawsuit over an AI-generated video. Throughout the journey, the students explore the legal and ethical implications of this technology.
Attending the competition is Claymont senior Malaika Douglas, juniors Cora Dotts, Cambria Edwards, and Zane Kuczirka, along with sophomores Grace Canfield, Braxtyn Myers, and Ashley Yang.
The team is coach by Judge J.J. Ong, with support from Attorney Jeff Merklin and teach Heather Dotts.
