Mary Alice Reporting –

Buddy White, Claymont City School’s new high school football coach, took a moment to speak with Uhrichsville council at their latest meeting.

He reflected on a parent meeting previously held and one thing emphasized was not tolerating any ugly scenes between parents and coaching staff at games.

One goal for White is to bring back pride to Uhrichsville and Dennison and to ensure that travelers will know they are in the home of the Mustangs.

“There’s no signs, no flags, no nothing. It’s one of my plans to try to see if we can get some flags or some banners, or something. I’m from Claymont and I remember how it used to be. Because what’s going to happen is if we are successful with football it’s going to reverberate to the other teams. Why? It’s because it’s those kids that are playing football [are also] playing those other sports.”

As for getting ready for the upcoming football season, White says fun is key while working hard.

“And our kids are responding so well. I don’t know how many games we’re going to win but we’re going to play hard, we’re going to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. The big problem that I noticed from last year is that they didn’t tackle very well, so we’re putting a lot of focus on that.”

Mayor Jim Zucal added that the city would take an active approach to create more pride by painting various things, possibly light poles, with Claymont colors.
