The Cleveland truck driver convicted in a deadly highway crash will spend three years in prison and now faces a civil lawsuit from the victim’s family.

60-year-old Antonio Wyley earlier this year pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter, failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence. The charges stem from an October 2024 crash on I-77 in Bolivar. Police say Wyley was making an illegal U-Turn when his semi-truck was struck by an SUV driven by Dennis Alsept, who died a week later.

Assistant Prosecutor Lacey Felix says Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Ernest on Monday sentenced Wyley to a 36-month prison term and imposed the maximum license suspension of 36 months.

Wyley drove away after the crash, and it took nearly two months for authorities to identify and arrest him using surveillance video and tips from the public.  Felix says the theme of choices and consequences repeatedly came up during sentencing.

Prosecutors reduced the original charge of aggravated vehicular homicide in return for Wyley’s plea.

Meanwhile, Alsept’s family is suing Wyley, his trucking company and others. Wyley and his attorneys have not yet responded to the complaint.
