Nick McWilliams reporting – In line with National Child Support Awareness Month, Tuscarawas County offered its own recognition of the topic.

Every year, 13 million children are served through the child support program, which accounts for over $27.4 billion in collection for families.

Ohio ranks second in child support establishment, and in the top five for caseloads in paternity establishment.

Tuscarawas County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director Traci Berry says that their office continues to work to benefit children in need of financial support every year.

“Last year in fiscal year 2022, we collected over $12 million that went to families here in Tuscarawas County. We established about 3,300 paternities each year for children born out of wedlock.”

In Ohio, one in every three children are within the child support program.

By her account, around 7,500 children in the county are under the child support umbrella, with over 10,000 parents involved.
