Mary Alice Reporting – The Newcomerstown Emergency Rescue Squad was named as a defendant in a complaint filed by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.

The grievance alleges that NERS entered an agreement, in September 2020, to improve board governance and financial accountability, but did neither.

According to Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court documents, NERS failed to file annual financial reports and directors did not attend agreed upon training. By the Attorney General’s account, NERS was operating almost 18 months without a license to issue pharmaceuticals.

The state office opened an investigation in 2019 into the charitable governance, finances, and administration of the Newcomerstown Response Squad.

The complaint, filed Friday, April 21st, says that NERS failed to comply with essential licensing and legal reporting requirements, financial failures are listed, as well as, allegations of a breach of fiduciary duties, violation of charitable law, and failure to file an annual report with the Ohio Attorney General for 2021.
