Mary Alice Reporting –

Following a meeting of the Uhrichsville Safety, Health, and Service committee, members voted to present the first version of ordinances for council review.

The city’s law director was asked to gather insight from neighboring municipalities and what they have as laws for events hosted on city property and then present possible regulations to the committee.

Chair Steve Patterson said among the items within the proposal is ensuring approval of safety forces and if needed, proof of existing county health department license.

“What we’re looking at is applications, permit fees, outline structure reporting by the organization applying, proof of liability insurance, setup and maps of the site, the hazards if any, sanitation, the cleanup, and restrooms.”

Both Patterson and Mayor Jim Zucal noted that this is for the safety of citizens and the city, and is not meant to burden the business environment.

“We are not here and it was never anyone’s intention, from the administration or council, to prohibit anything. We don’t want to prohibit, so we are here to regulate and protect our community to make sure that we don’t have an inherent liability of anything that we do.”

Committee members passed a motion to present the ordinances at the April 25th regular council meeting for review and comment.
