Gwen Rummell Reporting –

Thanks to support from the Dover Tornado Club and the Reeves Foundation, the Crater Stadium will be getting new turf.

The stadium closed after graduation to immediately start on the project. Superintendent Karie McCrate says the field was originally turfed in 2013 and it was due for a replacement.

“When the Tornado Club put the original turf in, in 2013, they had the foresight and the vision to plan ahead so that when it came time for replacement in a decade or so, the funds will be available. They have been planning for this, saving for this, and they were ready to do the project now.”

During the closure, the track and field will not be open. The work is expected to be completed around mid-July.
