A driver was hospitalized and crews had hours of cleanup and repair work after a car crashed into a telephone pole overnight in Franklin Township.

It happened just before one o’clock Tuesday morning at the intersection of State Route 93 and U.S. 250, across from Progressive Foam.

Strasburg Fire Chief Jason Ely says the car hit the pole with enough force to snap it near ground level and it brought down two other poles due to the tension of the wires.

Ely says the impact brought down multiple power lines and three large transformers, which spilled oil that had to be cleaned up by the hazmat team.

The male driver was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. His name has not been released. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
