Daniel J. “Dan” Hershberger, 88, of Sugarcreek, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following a brief illness.
He was born on May 26, 1934, to the late Jonas J. and Sarah (Mast) Hershberger and married Viola Mae Bontrager on November 30, 1957. She died on August 29, 2015.
He was a member of the New Order Amish Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Ann Miller of Strasburg; grandson Ryan Miller of Sugarcreek; 3 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mabel Otto of Crossville, TN and Anna Lapp of Malta, OH.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Sue Bontrager; brother Henry; 3 sisters Mattie, Clara, and Mary; sister-in-law Alta Hershberger; and 4 brothers-in-law Menno Erb, Nelson Lapp, Kenneth Johnson and Alvin Otto.
Services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 9:00 AM at Maranatha Fellowship Church in Sugarcreek with Bishop Robert Troyer officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in Sugarcreek Twp., Tuscarawas County. Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Maranatha Fellowship Church. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
