David Arcand, 68, passed away early on Wednesday November 1, 2023, at the Riverside Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Newcomerstown, Ohio. David was born in Schenectady, New York to the late Robert John Arcand and Katherine (Kulchinsky) Arcand. His family traveled extensively for many years as his father was in the U.S. Airforce. David was the oldest of five children and grew up near Springfield, Massachusetts, where he attended a two-year technical college and then worked for many years at Digital Equipment Company.
He was the consummate “Computer Geek” and never met a gadget, database, or new device he couldn’t wait to get into. He organized a computer club, an online bulletin board, and was active in ham radios. Geo-caching around New England and feeding the chickens at his sister Jean’s farm were the extent of his outdoor activities.
David had moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2010 for better job opportunities and to be near his sister Jean and her husband Scott who had a farm in Adamsville. Unfortunately, a year after starting a new job in database administration, he suffered a stroke which left him with enough disabilities requiring a long-term nursing facility. David had been at Riverside Manor since late 2012. This was still close enough to Jean’s farm for visits, treats, movie outings and technical consultation.
David is survived by his sisters: Jean (Scott) Bush of Apalachicola, Florida; Suzanne (Robert) Hachey of Mount Airy, North Carolina; and Marie (Paul) Caizzi of Bolton, Massachusetts. Davids’s dry humor, video reviews and technical support will be missed. No memorial service is planned. Our family wishes to thank all the caring people at Riverside Manor for the excellent care of our brother.
