Deanna J. Burger, 86, of Sugarcreek passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Hennis Care Center in Bolivar following a 4 year battle with dementia, where she was surrounded by her family.
She was born in New Philadelphia on February 23, 1938 to the late Warren and Ethel (Manuel) Lenhart and married David L. Burger on May 23, 1959. He died on June 20, 2000.
She worked at GTE for 36 years as a phone operator and was hostess at the former Beachy’s Restaurant for many years. She was a member of the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church. Deanna loved going to Thrift Stores, Antique Stores, and being in her garden. But, most of all she loved the family vacations to Myrtle Beach and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne “Roxie” (Ty) Hershberger of Sugarcreek; grandchildren, Reanda (Robert) Yoder of Baltic, Quinn Hershberger of Sugarcreek, and Destinee “DeeDee” (Josh) Werker of Sugarcreek; great grandchildren, Grace, Kory, Evelyn, and Gretchen Yoder and Blair, Wade, and Wren Werker; and her sister-in-law Twila Lenhart of Dover.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, great granddaughter, her sister Dorothy Kent and brothers, Lee Lenhart, Eldon “Lefty” Lenhart and Robert W. Lenhart.
Services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11 AM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Eckert officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
