Dennis E. “Denny” Barcus, 71, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his family on Monday, February 12, 2024, in Select Specialty Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center at Canton, following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover, Denny was the son of the late George L. Barcus and is survived by his mother, LaVaughan (Householder) Barcus of New Philadelphia. A 1970 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Denny had worked in the automotive department at the former Montgomery Ward at Dover until an auto accident prevented him from continuing his employment.
Known by many as a man with a sweet and kind disposition, Denny loved to watch professional wrestling, listen to country music and was a fan of basketball and baseball. Especially cheering on the Cleveland Guardians.
In addition to his mother, Denny is survived by his brother, Richard Barcus of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Debra (Paul) Hinkley of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Brenda Barcus of New Philadelphia; a niece, Carrie (Sean) Palmer and a nephew, Richard (Jo) Barcus II.
In addition to his father, a nephew, Daniel Barcus also preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia where a service celebrating Denny’s life will be held begin at 1:30 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Leanna Roe officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
