The Village of Dennison is reviewing the latest offer related to gas and electric through an optional aggregate program.

Larry Taylor, with Trebel Energy, talked about a rise in capacity at 27-pecent and then 833-percent, which is partly creating an increase on bills through all energy providers.

“Capacity is kind of like an insurance program. What the PJM Grid, the grid where all the power comes through and they serve 18 states and Ohio is one of those states. They put out an auction, and they say to the supply we want you to bid on capacity. They say here’s what we believe what it’s going to cost this year for us to be able to supply during a peak demand moment on your grid at any time through the course of a year.”

The Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC) got involved at that point and capped the capacity rate at 325-percent.

Taylor went over the village’s contract during Wednesday’s meeting while noting that electricity increases are across all providers.

“It’s going to continue to go up. The grid is almost at capacity. That’s not good. The only way to remedy that is these AI plants that are using so much energy, big users are now going to be required to build their own mini plant, which is good for us as residents because we won’t have to pay that price.”

However, that requirement is not in place for another five years.

To Dennison council, he asked for them to consider a contract addendum.

“If we can find a rate between now and the next few months to lock in for years 2029 and 2030 on gas and electric we want the ability to be able to do that.”

Council agreed on the recommendation for the addendum to be reviewed by legal counsel.
