Mary Alice Reporting – The upcoming council meeting for the Village of Dennison has moved to a later start time as discussions are expected related to a non-payment lawsuit.

The regular meeting on Wednesday, April 19th was set to begin at 6pm, now the timing is at 7:30pm.

The change relates to depositions scheduled related to a lawsuit filed over the Claymont High School income tax, according to a release from Dennison.

The agreement was approved in July 1998 by council members from Dennison and Uhrichsville, and the Claymont school board. As part of the contract, the high school’s property was annexed into city limits and payments for the agreed to tax began in 2001, when the building opened, but the 37-percent collection stopped being paid in 2020.

According to Dennison, they have not received their payment since the beginning of 2021 and that the Uhrichsville auditor, at that time, did not comply with paying the tax despite Uhrichsville council voting 4-3 to pay.

The current amount of taxes that is owed to Dennison is $44,276.29 as of April 6, 2023, per the village’s release.

A lawsuit seeking the payment was filed in February 2022.
