A large showing in Dennison Thursday helped highlight an announcement for two special train rides to occur in 2026 in recognition of America’s 250th anniversary.

Before remarks, Claymont High School Drama students, dressed in 1940’s garb, provided some time period and Patriotic music.

Dennison’s Railroad Depot Museum will host one of five signature events next year says Director Wendy Zucal.

“We like to say when you visit you walk in the footsteps of American heroes. The heroes that served on the battlefield, the heroes that served on the home front, and we forget the third set of heroes, the railroads that kept the trains running so we could win the war.”

A large event will take place at the Depot on April 25th and 26th. Tickets are now on sale for two different 250 Buckeye Train excursions; one round trip will be from Columbus to Dennison and the other travels from Newark to Coshocton to Dennison.

Village Mayor Gerg DiDonato says the local celebration will highlight trains, planes, and automobiles.

“This is where transportation all came together and made a big difference and played a major role in why we’re a national landmark today.”

Tuscarawas County Commissioner Kristen Zemis notes that the legacy of our forefathers continues to impact us today.

“We are privileged to partner with the AM 250 Ohio Commission to celebrate our nations 250th anniversary in only the way a historic railroad town like Dennison can do.”

Representative Jodi Salvo says the Dennison Depot is a local treasure but also a symbol of Ohio’s legacy of transportation.

“As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, it is incredibly fitting that the Dennison Railroad Depot, once known as Dreamsville USA, is helping lead the way in telling Ohio’s story to the nation. Nothing has shaped our state more and our communities more than our railroad. Railroads connected towns like Dennison to the rest of the country, they moved people, they powered industry, and they helped win wars.”

Each month next year the 250 Ohio Commission will celebrate themes of historical value, such as Ohio’s entertainment, arts and culture, and food and farms. Tuscarawas County is also planning to host events throughout 2026.
