The Dennison Fire Department has been taking a different approach to fire prevention week this time around.
Chief Dave McConnell says instead of hosting an open house at the fire station, they invited students in from ST. Mary’s, Claymont Intermediate, HARCATUS, and other schools all last week.
He feels the kids get a lot out of these presentations.
“They really enjoy it and seem to understand what we’re saying and then we go over some of our equipment on our truck and ambulance, and teach them little fire safety tips we can think of and teach them how to be safe.”
McConnell says Dennison firefighters were also going to Midvale elementary to give some lessons to kids there this week.
McConnell says the fire department stopped hosting its annual fire prevention week open house last year due to dwindling attendance, but they are looking at possibly resuming them again in the next couple of years.
