As part of the February meeting, Village of Dennison council approved the 2026 budget.
Mayor Greg DiDonato says they are in good standing for the year.
“We’re entering the year in a positive situation. We’re optimistic cautious because there has been a slowdown in the economy and that generally effects revenue for income tax, so we’ll monitor that situation.”
Administration is hoping for approval of a pending Ohio Public Works application that would allow more funding to pave Taylor and Ray Street. One big project that will happen is rebuilding a partial retainer wall and putting down sidewalks in the 600 and 700 blocks of 1st Street.
Elsewhere, DiDonato says they are working with the fire department and mutual aid partners for upcoming equipment needs.
“We’re looking at going after a pumper fire truck which would eliminate two vehicles, the tanker and the fire truck Mill Township has. We would be able to do two into one which would give more space in the garage, and it would bring them up to date. They both exceed 20 years.”
DiDonato did note a concern over the possibility of a ballot initiative to end property taxes within Ohio and the harmful effects, especially in smaller communities.
“If you want police and fire services, and streetlights they are tied to those, and as I tell everybody we can’t pay these bills with monopoly money if those funds go away. Otherwise, the village right now should have another good year.”
He adds that an uncompleted Enbridge gas line project, on the north end, will begin again in April.
