Dennison officials are emphasizing a detail be well advertised regarding zoning and the potential auction of the Claymont Intermediate.

Mayor Greg DiDonato says he wants the public to know that the school is zoned green or public.

“Any commercial use requires a state approved plan. There is zoning. You can’t do it without zoning change. That can be done but they have to go through a process, and they have to get approved.”

He says the district or realtor needs to ensure proper notification is given to potential buyers since that block of N. 3rd Street is currently zoned for education purpose.

“They would have to have a state approved plan and that would cost millions of dollars.”

School administration discussed a fall time auction so that they would not have to worry with the water lines. Dennison’s fire chief noted once they district vacates, they would still need to maintain the fire suppression system until a sale goes through.
