Thanks to the collaboration between the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, the America 250-Ohio Commission, and the Ohio Central Railroad, the Village of Dennison is preparing for a weekend that is expected to draw thousands of visitors.

America is celebrating its 250th anniversary since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and several signature events are planned through the Ohio commission.

Dennison Mayor Greg DiDonato says one of those is the America 250 Buckeye Train which will come twice to the Dennison Railroad Depot.

“I truly believe we could see ten, 20 thousand a day. It’s one of the four signature events. It’s a once in a life-time thing and you have your county and surrounding counties.”

The event is April 25th and 26th, 10am to 5pm. The two train rides, one coming from Columbus and the other from Newark, are sold out and that’s a guaranteed 2,000 visitors.

He says over the next eight weeks, there’s a lot to do, like ensuring police are available for security and traffic directing and placing volunteers at parking areas that will include downtown lots and ball fields.

“Just trying to get it all planned and I’ve got fingers crossed we have a little bit of luck as far as the weather. That will probably be the first time our DORA is really used so we’ve got signs getting ready to go up and cups are being ordered through the Downtown Dreamsville Association.”

Event organizers have worked to include over 15 food trucks, WWII reenactors, the blimp, car show, and fly overs. Find more details on the Buckeye Train festival at dennisondepot.org.
