Nick McWilliams reporting – A series of events south of Sugarcreek and Ragersville resulted in hundreds being removed from an AirBNB location, and a Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office deputy being struck by a vehicle.

A call came in late Saturday to a dwelling on Evans Creek Road, which has a Sugarcreek address, located between Baltic, Ragersville, Stone Creek, and Bakersville.

According to Detective Lieutenant Adam Fisher, the call was initially for a fire alarm call just past 11 p.m., which he says eventually led to deputies finding a large gathering of people, with a large amount of what was believed to be cigarette smoke leading to the alarms triggering.

He says that deputies called the property manager, who stated that the renters were in violation of their contract, and attempted to remove those inside.

“[Deputies] were following the property manager’s request, and attempting to get the individuals to leave from the property, and things escalated. There was alcohol involved, and obviously, with 250-plus people, some tempers can probably flare. A number of fights broke out inside the house that the deputies were trying to deescalate.”

Fisher says that parties involved in altercations were separated, and all were sent home. A deputy stationed himself at the end of the driveway to ensure all vehicles leaving the scene were operated by sober individuals.

Fisher says that a 25-year-old female refused the deputies commands, and eventually attempted to drive away, leading to her vehicle coming in contact with law enforcement.

“She ultimately backed her vehicle into the driver’s side door of his vehicle, and in response as he was trying to keep her from driving away, and remove her from her vehicle, she steered her car towards him, striking his left leg and running over his left foot.”

The deputy is reportedly doing well after receiving medical care and an evaluation at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.

The woman is currently incarcerated in the Tuscarawas County Justice Center on felonious assault charges, with further charges likely, following a review of the incident.

The female is the only individual from that incident who was placed under arrest.
