Dessie I. Casebeer, 92, of Goshen, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in Community Hospice-Truman House in New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health.
Born in her family’s home in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Mabel P. (Gardner) Tidrick and graduated in 1948 from the former Freeport High School at Freeport. Dessie retired after 27 years as a cook at the former Valley Manor Nursing Home in New Philadelphia and Union Hospital in Dover. In her spare time, she loved crocheting and spending time with both her family and her faithful dog, Sadie.
Dessie is survived by a son, Terry (Brenda) Casebeer of Massillon, two daughters, Cathy Gadfield of Canton, and Candy Donaldson of New Philadelphia; 11 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, five Great-Great Grandchildren and a special niece and nephew, Cindy and Brent Wheatley.
In addition to her parents, Dessie was preceded in death by her husband, Gene L. Casebeer; a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie, and Edward King; a grandson, Edward King, II; three sisters, Marie Canfield, Veda Edmonson, and Dessie’s twin sister, Jessie Wheatley. Three brothers also died in infancy.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia from 2 to 5 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Monday. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, February 6, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia.
