Doc William Flanagan, 75, of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Born August 30, 1947, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Gordon and Lilly Mae (Davis) Flanagan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doc G. and Ruth Flanagan, who raised him, and a sister, Ruth Ledrich.
Doc grew up in Maryland and was a 1966 graduate of Bruce High in Westernport before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969. After leaving the military, he moved to Ohio where he made his home for many years, and was an auto mechanic for Parkway Ford before returning to Maryland in 1997. There he was an employee of Lehigh Cement until his retirement. He was a member of Tyrian Lodge #205, AF&AM in Maryland, where he filled several offices and was active in fundraising for Masonic Charities. He currently served as the Treasurer for Two Hundred Five Temple Holding Co. Inc. Doc was a member of Plymouth Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Past Patron and served as Grand Sentinel from 2003-2004.
On December 18, 1997, Doc married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ann (Biggs) Flanagan who survives him at home. He is also survived by a son, George (Dawn) Flanagan; grandson, Richard (Hope) Flanagan; stepdaughters, Amanda (Roger) Reed and Lesley Broadwater; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Dave) Cihon and Linda Bates; and brothers, Gordon (Dena) and Robert (Connie).
According to Doc’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s local Humane Society.
