Gwen Rummell Reporting –

Following an expensive week, the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound is requesting donations.

Vet bills for last week, for four dogs, is well over $1,000. The canines receive 4dx tests, which includes tests for heartworm, Lyme’s disease, and more. Combination vaccines and kennel cough vaccines are also given to each animal.

Facility and Adoption Specialist Beth Lewis said most of the expenses were from a small dog that required a dental cleaning.

“We could have said no, just leave it be and spay her, but we believe that if we can do it then we need to do it. We can set the dog up for success as much as possible.”

The dog pound says they rely on adoption fees and license sales for funding.

“If people want to support the dog pound, get your dog licensed. That comes straight back to us. Every dollar of it comes back to helping the dog pound. As for as donations go, it’s very nice to have that little bit of extra help.”

Donations to help with vet bills can be made over the phone to Humble Creatures at 330-492-6960. The pound will also accept cash and check donations in person or by mail. An Amazon wish list with needed supplies is pinned on the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound’s Facebook page.
