Dennison firefighters are sharing more revealing details about the Mill Township home damaged by fire Wednesday night.

Chief Dave McConnell says the owner told them that he had moved out to the ranch-style home in the 68-hundred block of Wardell Hollow Road SE about a year ago.

Instead, he was using it to house an uncertain number of pets that he checked on daily.

McConnell notes the home was in deplorable condition and the homeowner gave conflicting accounts about how many dogs lived there.

McConnell says firefighters rescued nine dogs and several cats. It’s didn’t appear any pets died in the fire, which was mostly contained to a single room but left smoke and water damage throughout.

The Chief is working with the humane society to find a safe place for the animals to go.

The cause of the blaze still appears to be electrical in nature but is being listed as undetermined.
