Donald E. Norman, 86, of Newcomerstown, passed away on March 29, 2022, at his home. He was born October 14, 1935, in Newcomerstown to the late Cecil Howard and Lillian Elizabeth (Cochran) Norman.
He served in the U.S. Army, attended Army Language School in California, where he learned to speak Korean and went on to serve as an interpreter for the Army. Don retired from Empire Plastics after many years.
He was very avid about the Boy Scouts, joining at age 12 he eventually became an Eagle Scout and obtained the Silver Beaver award; he was ScoutMaster of Troop #424 for many years and taught swimming, among other things. He was an avid blood donor, involved in the Farm Bureau, the Newcomerstown Rotary, and loved going to car shows. He was a member of the Newcomerstown United Methodist Church for over 50 years, some of which he spent teaching Sunday School. Don was very family oriented; he loved spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and he loved God.
On February 2, 1963, he married Shirley J. (Patterson) Norman, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Lisa (Kevin) McVey of Pensacola, FL, Marc (Lens) Norman of Columbus, and Amanda (Ben) Hoffman of Newcomerstown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beverly Crumley, Mary Hicks, and Helen Jane (Jim) Penrod; one brother, Robert (Cheri) Norman; one sister-in-law, Elaine Mayenschein; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry (Kay) Norman.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 12:00 PM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown with Rev. Bracken Foster officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2022, from 11:00 to 12:00 at the church, prior to the service.
