Donald Leslie Whiteman, 81, a resident of the Uhrichsville, Ohio area since 2000, formerly of West Finley, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Born June 16, 1942 in Donegal Township of Washington County, Pennsylvania, he was the last surviving child of the late Roy Leslie and Elizabeth (Brownlee) Whiteman, having been preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Teagarden and Patricia Sprowls, as well as his dear canine companions, Shiloh and Oscar.
Don grew up in Claysville and was a graduate of Claysville High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force for 7 years. He had a deep love for our nation and truly enjoyed his time in the service. Don returned home to a career as a service technician with Sears and Roebuck which spanned more than 30 years until his retirement in 2000. In retirement, he was able to spend more time on his favorite pastimes, including fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He was methodist by faith.
On September 7, 2001, Don married Michelle Ann (Chambers) Whiteman who survives him at their home. He is also survived by three daughters, Sheryl (Drew) Madura, Barbara (Mike) Yesenchak, and Diana Barnhart; three stepsons, Jeremy Galloway, Justin (Shannon) Galloway, and Josh (Amber) Galloway; grandchildren, Andrew, Jeffrey, and Jenna Madura, Brittney (George) Austin, Ryan Yesenchak, Nathan Barnhart, Noah, Riley, Briella, Bradyn, Parker, and Layne Galloway, Madyson Drosieko, and Lauryn Toriseva; great-granddaughter, Arlo Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
According to Don’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public service. His family plan to celebrate his life privately. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions honoring his memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306.
