Donald Ray Butler, Jr., 64, of Dennison, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, from Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville after a period of declining health. Born August 15, 1957, in Dennison, he was a son of June E. (Kadri) Butler of Uhrichsville and the late Donald Ray Butler.
Don was a lifelong area resident and a 1975 graduate of Claymont High School. He worked at Twin City Pharmacy in Dennison for over 40 years, starting out as a delivery boy in high school. He then became store manager until his retirement in 2017. He was a longtime active member of Park Christian Church in Dennison, having served as a Deacon, as well as a Youth Group Leader. Don coached local Little League teams for many years, enjoyed bowling with his bowling league, and was an avid golfer who loved the time he spent on the course with his family and his friends from the golf league.
On June 28, 1981, Don married the former Sandra Lee Vermillion who survives him along with their children, Abby (Matt) Anderson, Maddy Butler, and Brody Butler, and grandchildren, Hawk and Eliza Anderson, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his siblings, Randall (Tammy) Butler and Connie Butler; mother-in-law, Donna Vermillion; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Randy and Yvonne Vermillion, Pam and Chris Abbuhl, and Kim Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah J. Vickers, and father-in-law, D. V. Vermillion.
According to Don’s wishes, cremation is planned. A memorial service, officiated by Pastors Scot Caley and Dave Bryan, will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, at Park Christian Church where Don’s family will receive callers from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. before the service. A meal and celebration of his life will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Claymont Booster Club, P.O.
