Doris J. Kimble, 95, of State Route 39 NW, Dover, Ohio went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 28, 2023, in her home following a period of declining health.
Born April 15, 1928, in Dover (Winfield), she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Beulah (Weiss) Walter. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, her parents, and her two brothers, William and Dale Walter.
She was an astute businesswoman, who along with her late husband Floyd, founded the Kimble Company in 1948. Her family continues to grow and operate the family business today. While raising her family, Doris would stay up late into the evening doing the bookwork needed to keep the company running smoothly. She had previously worked at the former Reeves Steel Company where she was secretary to the late Samuel Reeves during her husband’s service in the U.S. Army. When Floyd returned home from the service they were married on January 1, 1950. Doris used a parachute silk that her husband brought home from the service to make her wedding dress. They were married for 48 years until Floyd’s passing on September 5, 1998.
She was a 1946 graduate of Dover High School, a lifelong member of the Faith Methodist Church in Dover, where she was previously a pianist, a life member of the Brandywine Grange, Fortnightly Music Club, and for several years played the French horn in the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra. She will probably most be remembered for her philanthropy and support given to area schools, charities, civic organizations, and numerous humanitarian efforts over the years through the generous Kimble Foundation.
Doris will be sadly missed by her family that includes her daughter, Jo Elaine (Rick) Mako of New Philadelphia, four sons, Greg (Barbara) Kimble of Dover, Gary Kimble of Uhrichsville, Keith (Kathy) Kimble of Dover, and Eric “Rick” (Deborah Haswell) Kimble of Dover along with 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Walter of Canton and a sister, Lorla Cihon of Columbus and many nieces and nephews.
Friends can pay their respects at the NewPointe Community Church on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 11:00 am to noon. Pastors Shelly Nordine and Dwight Mason will celebrate her life beginning at noon. Following the celebration, friends and family are invited for a time of food and fellowship that will take place until 3:30 pm. A private family graveside service will be held in the Brandywine Cemetery in Dover. Those who may wish to express a fond memory of Doris can sign the online guestbook by visiting the funeral home website at www.tolandherzig.com.
