Dorothy A. Flynn, age 89, of Strasburg, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, following a brief illness.
Born April 7, 1933, in Dundee, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Celia Fair Knipe. Dorothy attended Dundee High School and was later employed as a nurse’s aide at Union Hospital, Dover, from which she retired after 25 years of service. Dorothy stayed busy in her retirement as a home health care aide.
She was a long-time member of the Dundee Church of God and belonged to the church’s Willing Workers group. Dorothy was musically talented, having learned to play the piano, organ, and banjo by ear, and often sang and played the piano at her church. She very much enjoyed spending time with her large family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and, among so many other good things, will be remembered by them as an excellent cook and baker.
Dorothy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her children, Carol Richardson of Strasburg, Rick Flynn of Dover, Rhonda (Bill) Angel of Sugarcreek, Paula (Tim) Truax, and Charlotte (Ron) Burtscher, both also of Dover; her grandchildren, Cortney, Lindsay, Ryan, Adam, Bryan, Erica and Andrea; and her 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Frey Denham.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, June 18, 10 – 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 officiated by Pastor Duane Wilbur.
