Dorothy Irene “Dottie” Shott, age 74, of New Philadelphia lost her courageous battle with cancer at 5:34 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2024 in Ohio Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.

She was born December 20, 1949, in Canton, Ohio; a daughter of the late Frank Osborne Teter and Beatrice Marie Trushell Teter Case.

Dottie was a 1968 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. She studied cosmetology at Gerber Beauty School and became a beautician. She started her hairstyling career at Our Personal Touch in New Philadelphia with Sue Watterson. She worked there for over twenty-five years and Sue became one of her best friends. She then worked for Yong’s Salon for twenty plus years and finished her fifty-five-year hairstyling career working for Running with Scissors. Dottie and Sue, along with lots of beauticians she worked with and made friends with over the years enjoyed traveling to a lot of hair shows. Her battle with cancer forced her to retire in December of 2023.

Dottie was a member of Grace Community Church in Stone Creek. She also had a thriving Avon business for forty plus years and traveled to trade shows and flea markets with her Avon products for many years.  She was the founder of the Red Hats Club in New Philadelphia, which is now known as the Happy Hats Club. She enjoyed so many adventures with her red hat ladies and organized numerous day trips, lunches, overnight bus trips, and her favorite to plan was the Mystery Trips.

She and her husband of forty-six years, John A. Shott II, enjoyed camping. They started out camping at Atwood with her parents and after twenty-five years moved to Springwood Lake Camp Club near Bolivar. She loved her camper and camping atmosphere including the church services, parties, picnics, reunions, and dances held there in the Springwood Club House.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter: Jody Daugherty; two sons: Mike Daugherty and John A. (Sandra) Shott III; two step-daughters: Jennifer (Patrick) Patterson and Jane Miller; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Frank (Mary Jo) Teter and Terry Teter; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins. She was the oldest of twenty-eight Trushell cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Her family is planning a Celebration of Life to be held later.

The family has requested if anyone wants to make a donation in her memory that it be given to the Ohio Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia to help them say thanks for their outstanding care and compassion provided to Dottie and her family.
