Dorothy J. Church, 86, of Dover passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, in the Community Hospice Truman House.

She was born on September 4, 1936, in Dover and was a daughter of the late Homer and Anne Smitley Dotts. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, Allen B. Church on February 2, 2013; son in law, Curt Auman; brothers, Jerry, Sonny, Jack and Tiny Dotts; sisters, Gracey Dotts, Betty Champion and step-granddaughter, Nicole Coleman.

Dorothy was a member of Community Baptist Church in Dover. She was also a member of the Dover VFW, Moose and Eagles Club where she enjoyed playing Euchre with her friends. Dorothy was an exceptional quilter and gardener and was awarded Gardener of the Year, Canner of the Year and Best in Show for quilting at the Tuscarawas County Fair.

A dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Joy (Fred) Smart, Shelly (Ron) Maurer and Emmalee Auman all of Dover; brothers, Chick (Carol) Dotts of New Philadelphia, Richard (Doris) Dotts Sr. of Dover; sisters, Vicki (Bob) Todd of Akron, Helen (Lee) Myers of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

A service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 28th starting at 11:00 am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Andy McClung officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am.
