Douglas Eugene McPeek, 72, of Dennison, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover. Born August 3, 1951 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Howard Earl and Thelma Lucille (Walton) McPeek.
A 1969 graduate of Claymont High School, Doug was a lifelong area resident. He retired from Dover Tank & Plate where he had been a supervisor, after many years of service. He was a member of the Uhrichsville Moose, Uhrichsville Eagles, and Dennison Eagles. He will be remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humor that could light up a room with one of his one-liners. His family will treasure memories of the time that they spent together, especially on vacations, and his deep love for them.
On November 27, 1971, Doug married the former Sheila Kaye Wenger with whom he enjoyed over 48 years of marriage until her passing on February 8, 2020. They are survived by their children, Douglas E. (Shelley) McPeek, Jr., Michelle (Scott) Sauernheimer, Candace (Timothy, II) Zurcher, and Matt (Charla) McPeek; grandchildren, Caitlyn, Aimee, Jared, Deidra, Scottie, Timmy III, Taylor, Tucker, T.J., Matthew, Logan, Cody, Hayley, Alexis, Jacob, and Jayse; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Eliana, Titan, Daisy, Brielle, Evelyn, Hudson, Ila, Vivian, Kinsley, and Jaxon, with another expected soon. Doug is also survived by his sisters, Molly (Wayne) Brandon and Mary (John) Free; brother, Dan (Sharon) McPeek; sister-in-law, Genie McPeek; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard “Mick” McPeek.
Pastor A. J. Brinegar will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Wednesday, October 4, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sugarcreek beside his beloved wife. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
