Nick McWilliams Reporting –

Following the announcement of a major electric vehicle component manufacturer growing roots in Dover, the city received word they have been approved for state dollars for improvements near the proposed build site.

Schaeffler, a manufacturing group that currently has a location in Wooster, and has a parent company located in Germany, creates drivetrain components for electric vehicles for companies like Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis.

The newly announced investment is projected to bring 650 jobs in Dover and Wooster, along with over $50 million in associated payroll, with groundbreaking expected this year, and completion in the later parts of 2025.

Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe announced Monday the city would be upgrading the road to the proposed site, thanks to a substantial grant for job creation.

“I’m proud to announce that Dover has been approved for $775,000 in state roadwork development grant funding for the improvement of Crown Road related to the Schaeffler project. Funds for this particular grant are coming from JobsOhio.”

The build site is along North Wooster Avenue, and will utilize the same access road as other industrial and business ventures on the north end of the city.

Gunnoe added that the city also expects to receive nearly $200,000 from the Ohio Department of Transportation for improvements to Crown Road as well.

The project to renovate the stretch of pavement is budgeted at $1.4 million.

In other city financial news, a request has been made for funds from the Ohio Legislature for improvements to the fire department to the tune of $350,000 for an auxiliary equipment building.
