The cost to install a splash pad at Dover City Pool went up this week. Council on Monday approved an 80-thousand dollar increase, bringing the total project cost over 360-thousand dollars.
Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the price of materials has gone up since the initial cost estimate.
He says the city has the funds to cover the increase as other projects – a picnic shelter, new police cars and pickle ball courts – were 130-thousand dollars under budget.
Gunnoe notes the city also received more than 100-thousand dollars in grants and donations toward the splash pad. Officials hope to install it this summer.
Dover also recently opened four new pickle ball courts at the City Park. And the city will be paving a walking trail at Dover Canal Park along the Tuscarawas River starting on Monday.
The park will be closed to the public next week. That project is being funded by a 350-thousand dollar state grant.
