Nick McWilliams Reporting –

Through the efforts of Dover residents, the city’s power plant did not have to source power from elsewhere, which will lead to savings next year.

Prior to the arrival of a winter storm in mid-January, city officials advised for all residents to consider lowering thermostats by a degree and taking other electricity-saving actions to prevent substantial rate increases.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says that that request was answered well by all within Dover who are on their power supply.

“As a result of the energy conservation efforts of our residents, and all of our electric generation equipment running at peak efficiency during winter storm Gerri on January 17th, the city of Dover expects our purchased power and transmission costs will be reduced by approximately $1.5 million beginning in 2025.”

According to the mayor, the community did not have to utilize the Regional Electric Grid System for power, instead supplying that system, which will lead to the savings.

During the storm, temperatures were projected to reach -15 degrees when factoring in wind chill.
