Dover City Schools and multiple teachers were recognized at the state level.

Dover City Schools was recently recognized by the Department of Education and Workforce with the “Momentum Award.” Dover was one of 42 schools to be recognized out of all of Ohio’s more than 600 school districts.

The award highlights significant growth in student achievement and academic levels. To earn this recognition, a school or district must increase its performance index score by at least three points. The district must also achieve a value-added rating of four or more stars. At the school level, Dover High School was among 311 individual schools to receive the honor.

Dover City Schools’ literacy teachers were recognized at the State’s Annual Literacy Academy Lab in Columbus. At the event, Sarah Wolfe, elementary reading teacher, Mandi Robinson, second grade teacher, and Lindsay McIlvaine, literacy coach, shared advice for reading specialists and classroom teachers to help struggling readers.

During a keynote presentation with Ohio Teacher of the Year, Melissa Kmetz, Dover was featured in an “All-Star Video” presentation. In addition to Wolfe, Robinson, and McIlvaine, EL Coordinator Britni Toukonen, and teachers Teresa Midkiff, Jeremy Evans, Ben Bartholomew, Gannon Petrullo were featured in the video.

Toukonen and Williams have been invited to present at the upcoming statewide Literacy Academy in June.
