Mary Alice Reporting –
Dover Avenue PTG created the Kindness Initiative as a fundraiser but to also spread good acts in school and the community.
Elementary students are part of the efforts with a pledge having been made.

PTG President Ericka Koffa explains that the idea is to switch from selling and instead engage the students in doing acts of kindness that are planned and also spontaneous.
“We’re serving instead of selling. Getting our kids out into the community [and] giving back. The concept is they’re paying the communities generosity forward by completing acts of kindness at home, at school, and in the community.”

5th grader Aaliyah Garner tells what kindness means to her.
“We help around the school by doing random acts of kindness like giving out morning greetings and cards sometimes. Being kind to everybody in the school and never being rude to anyone, and helping people when they need it.”

Other students spreading kindness include Lyla Shull, Sophie Hammerstrom, Wesley Huston, Alaysia Garner, and William Mejia Castro.
“Here at Dover Avenue, we spread kindness everywhere. We help out the kitchen, we help pick up trash, and we spread kindness around Dover Avenue and we bring smiles to everybody.”

Vice President Veronica Studer says another way the kids are spreading joy is cup sleeves, which will be seen by visitor’s to some local coffee shop will soon.
“The kids have colored the sleeves for the cups so then the customers will receive those and our QR codes on there so people can scan and take you right to our website and show you what the kids are up to, explain the initiative.”

The money goes toward events at Dover Avenue Elementary, such as assemblies and other programing. Stay up-to-date- on the initiative online at www.doverelementaryptg.com.
