The city has two new police cruisers almost ready to hit the streets.
City Safety Director Bob Everett says a third new vehicle is already in service, but the other two still need to be outfitted. One will be converted into a new K-9 vehicle. Everett says the cars should be ready for duty in the coming weeks.
He says a fully fitted police cruiser costs around $55,000, but the city carefully budgets to make sure fleet vehicles are continuously updated. That avoids high-mileage vehicles that “nickel and dime the city to death” with frequent repairs.
Everett says the police department also recently hired a new officer. The mayor swore in Anthony Nicholson on Monday. He previously worked in Stark County with the Perry Township Police Department.
