Dover is set to spend about 1.5 million dollars on stormwater management to accommodate the Schaeffler manufacturing facility coming to the city’s northern border.

City Council Monday approved 1 million dollars in state grants to cover two-thirds of the cost. Mayor Shane Gunnoe says tax revenue from the project will cover most of the rest of the cost.

“We expect all the grant applications to be approved based off our conversations with our partners at state agencies. Between that and the TIF fund, and another fund we set aside that should be sufficient.”

The city has outlined around three million dollars in stormwater, infrastructure and utility work needed to make the 67-acre site suitable for development. Gunnoe says most of those will be covered by grants.

“If all of our grant requests are approved, as expected, the city of Dover would have been awarded an additional $2.34 million in state and federal grant funding to support the Schaeffler expansion project.”

Schaeffler plans to build a 130-thousand-square-foot facility to manufacture electric vehicle components. It will be between Wooster Avenue and I-77 along Dover’s northern border with Parral and is part of the company’s 230-million-dollar expansion in Ohio.
