The hot-button topic of data centers will be the focus of a program at the Dover Public Library Wednesday evening.

Environmental scientist Dr. Randi Pokladnik will lead the program. She has also opposed fracking at public parks as a founding member of the nonprofit Save Ohio Parks. Now her concerns include “The Environmental Impacts of Hyperscale Data Centers.” Those concerns include power generation and usage, pollution, noise, water consumption, as well as the loss of rural lifestyles.

A recent AP report says data centers are straining electric grids. Researcher Jonathan Koomey says data center electricity usage has grown in recent years. He says governments and power companies need to be prepared.

Register for the program online at doverlibrary.org or call 330-343-6123.
