Gwen Rummell Reporting –

The 26th Annual “Dover vs. New Philadelphia Blood Battle” blood donation event will take place before the rivals’ big football game.

The event is on Wednesday, October 18th, at the Tuscarawas County YMCA in Dover from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm.

Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Director of Community Relations Darrin Lautenschleger says the blood drive goes deeper than the schools’ rivalry.

“It’s always just a fun time to do a good thing and we always want to remind people that each single blood donation has the power to save up to three lives. You can usually count on anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes of time set aside. When you stop a really think about it, it’s a small amount of time to help do a really good thing for the community.”

Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins will be taken. Donors must be at least 16 years old to participate, and donors under 18 must have a signed Parental Consent Form.

Donors will receive a special T-shirt from the event. Dover remains the reigning champion with 14 victories compared to New Phila’s 10, along with one tie. The winner will be announced during the 120th football game on October 20th at Crater Stadium.

Attendees are asked to eat a full meal at least an hour before arriving.
