Site Selection Magazine has picked both Dover and New Philadelphia as some of the best communities in the nation.

According to the magazine, the area of the two cities across the Tuscarawas River comes in the top 100 for micropolitan communities, which are cities between 10,000 and 50,000 and their surrounding demographics.

Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe says that, according to the magazine’s website, Site Selection is a leading publication in insights for corporate expansion.

“The Dover-New Philadelphia area tied for 16th in the United States, which is an improvement from last year’s ranking. I believe we had tied for 77th. The ranking is a demonstration of the continued growth and success of our community. The award speaks to economic success and that both communities work hard to support our residents and businesses.”

In other city news, Dover has received Community Development Block Grant funding for just over $450,000, which will be used for curb, sidewalk, and other improvements along West 7th Street, along with a portion of Center Street.

The mayor also reported that turf work has been completed on Field No. 7 at Dover City Park, and additional wind screens along the fencing will be completed in the next week.

Bid openings will also be held next Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the service director’s office for street paving contracts, and in mid-April for park resurfacing projects.
