City of Dover’s Police canine is getting recognized after helping law enforcement capture two correction center escapees last week.

The local department worked with U.S. Marshalls to apprehend the two women in a Race Street apartment building after receiving a tip from a tenant on October 13th. They had escaped from the Stark Regional Community Correction Center the day before.

Dover Safety Director Bob Everett says K-9 Red was instrumental in their capture. The women were hiding in the basement in a hole in the wall, covered by dirt, but Red sniffed them out and alerted his handler, Officer Jordan Doughty.

After being discovered, the women surrendered without incident. They have been charged with felony escape in Stark County and are in jail there with bond set at 150-thousand dollars. Their cases have been bound over to the Stark County Grand Jury.
