The City of Dover is releasing a statement following multiple inquiries regarding a police officer on January 21st.
Specific details on the matter are not being released, but Safety Director Bob Everett considers the matter serious and in need of a full investigation. The officer involved, who is not named, is currently on leave pending investigation results.
Dover is looking to an outside law enforcement agency to determine whether criminal action should be taken and a special prosecutor is appointed to evaluate results of the investigation.
Overall, Everett says, in the release, the city is acting according to the collective bargaining agreement with the FOP and the officer will remain on leave pending the investigations conclusion.
Everett adds that, “the City of Dover administration holds paramount the safety of the citizens of Dover and the integrity of the internal operations of its police department”.
