After a third hiring, Mayor Shane Gunnoe says it’s the first time the Dover Police Department has been at full force in 18 months.
Officers have been working overtime to keep the station at minimum staffing levels, which creates overtime costs.
Gunnoe says it had been difficult to attract applicants, so the city made some changes. The department loosened restrictions on facial hair, tattoos and residency requirements, increased the age limit from 35 to 50, reimbursed police academy tuition and boosted pay by two dollars an hour in 2024.
The three new Dover officers are William Steinbach, Nicholas Castricone, and David Little.
