Nick McWilliams reporting – Over $4.8 million from the state is being awarded to 98 Ohio schools for safety improvements.

The announcement from Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission included Dover Avenue, East, and South Elementary Schools, along with Dover Middle School.

The funds range in size from just under $7,500 for the middle school, to totals of $20,360 for Dover Avenue, more than $27,000 for East, and nearly $35,000 for South.

The grants are directed towards general building security upgrades, and safety improvements.

Schools can implement physical upgrades such as cameras, automatic door locks, public address systems, and other applicable items.

The K-12 School Safety Grant Program was first put into place last year by the Ohio School Safety Center.

Additionally, higher education locations such as Stark State and Zane State received sizable funds to improve overall campus safety.
