Nick McWilliams Reporting –

Even many months following the investigation into and eventual removal of then-Mayor Richard Homrighausen, Dover officials are still trying to separate the Human Resources and Safety Director jobs.

The request, first made by council in December of 2021, came after long-time HR and Safety Director Gerry Mroczkowski was fired abruptly, along with Service Director Dave Douglas and Executive Assistant to the Mayor Eva Newsome. Homrighausen did not give cause for the firings and vetoed the legislation.

Eventually, all three employees were reinstated, the former mayor was removed from office, and now current-Mayor Shane Gunnoe would like to see two separate jobs, creating a full-time HR position in the city. Mroczkowski issued his retirement from the combined role at the beginning of the year.

In other city news, the deadline to submit requests for funding for building demolitions in the city is Friday at 4 p.m. Interested individuals are asked to contact the city’s building and zoning codes office.

An entrance exam for police officers is being held March 9th in city council chambers, and more information can be found at www.doverohio.com/jobs.

Additionally, Gunnoe announced that the city’s scheduled shutdown for the Light and Power plant will be March 25th. Key upgrades included revamped switchgear, and the completion of a rebuild of their diesel generator.
