It looks like Dover will ban electric scooters from its parks.

The recommendation comes from a committee that included the mayor, police chief and City Safety Director Bob Everett.

“The whole reason it was brought up is because there was e-scooters every which way, people were trying to backup, people were trying to people, and we were so fearful from this end that somebody was going to get hit. Somebody was going to get killed.”

The ordinance would prohibit anyone from riding an e-scooter on city park property.

“That prohibits them on the roadway, the walkway, the walk paths, the grass, the turf, everywhere. They can push them; they can lock them up at the front of the entrances.”

The committee also recommended restrictions on electric bikes in city parks. Riders must be 16 and older and they must stay on the roadways and paved surfaces meant for motor vehicles. They can’t go on the grass, playgrounds or walking paths.

City Council will likely vote on the recommendations at an upcoming meeting.
