Nick McWilliams reporting – Dover city council members are set to discuss potential additions to their park system.
Resident Jennifer Flaherty spoke before council on Monday night. She is also the coordinator for the Challenger Baseball League, an organization that provides adaptive baseball for those with physical and intellectual challenges.
She noted amenities provided at the city parks system, and asked council to consider a communication board.
The board she proposed would provide pictures, symbols, or other depictions of various parts of the park, which would help non-verbal individuals in expressing what they would like to do by pointing or gesturing to the images.
She says that a similar board was recently unveiled at the Challenger home field on Pleasant Valley Road.
The idea was taken under consideration by the city’s parks committee, with future discussion planned.
